Full Version: "Resetting" an archive

I've had QVCS Enterprise up for a couple of weeks now, with a few projects and components up (all 1.0 versions), for the users to just play around with in order to become familiar with the app. Users have been checking components in and out, and everything has been working as expected.

In the very near future we're going to go live with this solution, at which point I'll want to "reset" all these projects -- by which I mean delete the current projects, re-create the projects (with the same names), and re-initialize the projects with all new version 1.0 components.

I thought that all I would need to do is delete the corresponding qvcsProjectsArchiveData directory, then simply re-Add the components to the still existing project. But when I do that (on one test project), though the components appear to be fine, I can't do anything with them -- can't Get them, can't Compare them to the workfile, etc.

So I've concluded that there must be something else I need to do to accomplish this "reset." Can you give me any hints?

Thanks as always.

Hmmm. Your strategy sounds okay, provided you deleted the archive files when the server is down. (The server caches a LOT of stuff in memory, and is not designed to behave predictably if you delete archive files out from under it when it is running).

Are there any entries in the client or server logs that indicate a problem when you try to 'get' or perform other operations?

I hadn't stopped the service (I didn't realize that the server was doing that much caching). I tried again having stopped the service and everything worked as expected. Thanks!
